'These were designed as a fashionable piece of furniture with ladie keeping their needlework projects in baskets prior to the 18th Century. Many extras were available such as an extendable reading stand and chess boards were also common, with additions like an ink-stand, a backgammon board, and fold-down extensions these really were vogue in their period.'
